‘Long overdue’, ‘Well done’ – Chelsea fans send positive messages to 27-year-old on Twitter

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been congratulating Marcos Alonso on his first call-up to the Spanish national team. Chelsea tweeted their congratulations to Alonso, with a link to the club’s website for more details. The Spaniard has been one of the key figures of Antonio Conte’s Chelsea since signing for the club back in summer 2016 and chipped in with key goals and assists as the Blues won the Premier League last season.

Chelsea fans propping our bar up are finally able to congratulate their marauding wingback on his first call-up for Spain, as the left-sided defender makes a late surge to be included in his country’s World Cup squad for Russia. The 2010 World Cup champions face both finalists from the 2014 tournament next week in Germany and Argentina as they make their final preparations before going to Russia.

Alonso will be rivalling Barcelona’s Jordi Alba for a starting spot in the Spanish backline and if he can get some minutes under his belt and impress internationally like he does for Chelsea then there’s no reason that La Roja won’t opt for the ex-Fiorentina man when they face Portugal, Iran and Morocco in Russia this summer.
