Chelsea should be aiming to sign a new striker in the January transfer window to continue their impressive start to the season.
Maurizio Sarri has hit the ground running after replacing Antonio Conte in the summer, guiding Chelsea to third in the Premier League table, behind only Liverpool and Manchester City. The Italian wasn’t given much time to strengthen his squad during the summer but has managed to bring the best out of Ross Barkley who joined from Everton in January. Eden Hazard’s form has also drastically improved since Sarri took charge of the club.
Despite Alvaro Morata also enjoying a resurgence, Chelsea need a top-class forward with a proven record in the Premier League to catch their rivals in the title race. One man they could look to sign in the January transfer window is Barcelona superstar – Luis Suarez.
Valued at £63m by Transfermarkt, the Uruguay international is no stranger to life in England after spending four years in the Premier League with Liverpool. The former Ajax forward was a key player for the Reds and almost guided them to the Premier League title in 2014, scoring 31 goals in the Premier League as Liverpool finished second. Following the World Cup, Suarez joined Barcelona for £65m.
His form continued in Spain with Suarez excelling alongside Neymar and Lionel Messi to fire Barcelona to the Champions League trophy in his debut season. Despite scoring a hat-trick in last week’s 5-1 victory over Real Madrid, the forward believes the club are searching for a replacement. Chelsea should take advantage and attempt to bring him back to the Premier League.
Suarez is one of the world’s best strikers, and his arrival could give the Blues a welcome boost in the New Year. Landing a player of his calibre could be the difference between winning the title.
