Good news has come then in the shape of reports from the Sun.
Now, with quotes sourced from his agent, the 29-year old is thought to be open to the idea of leaving the Italian capital for these shores.
“He joined Lazio and even got insults from some fans. He won them all over but now Antonio has realised it’s time for a new challenge”, said Federico Pastorello.
“Fans shouldn’t be upset or angry, it’s part of the logic that brings clubs and players together, and then clubs take decision to go their separate ways.
“That doesn’t mean we should leave on bad terms. This experience has brought him great relationships over the years with the president, coaches, teammates and fans.
“If he were to leave, it would be with a smile. [The Premier League is] the top league [in Europe]. Antonio would also consider options abroad.”
A versatile winger, his almost boundless energy would be a natural fit in the Italian’s preferred 3-5-2 formation, boasting the skills required to operate as a dynamic wing-back if tasked.
Serie A giants Inter Milan are also believed to be keen on the midfielder, should the club grant his wish to leave.
