The Blues face a challenge this summer to bolster their squad ahead of their return to the Champions League next summer but European giants seem to be looking to take advantage of the success from Antonio Conte’s side by launching swoops for their prized players.
Spanish outlet Sport state Barcelona are eyeing a move for Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta as an alternative to Arsenal ace Hector Bellerin, as the Catalan giants seek to upgrade their options on the right-side of defence.
Barcelona failed to replace Dani Alves last summer, following the Brazilian’s move to Juventus, and have utilised Sergi Roberto as cover this season. However, they’re keen to significantly bolster their squad next term after a disappointing campaign.
Manager Luis Enrique is due to leave this summer and a wealth of changes are expected to be made within the squad, with Azpilicueta eyed as an ideal recruit and the Catalans, crucially, would play the Spaniard in his most natural position.
Chelsea have utilised Azpilicueta centrally to great success this season and have regularly used him at left-back during his time at Stamford Bridge but right-back is his most favoured position, and the 27-year-old may jump at this opportunity.
