Mammoth Chelsea deal in major doubt as club baulk at blockbuster £65m asking price

The Romelu Lukaku saga is already one of the most furiously debated issues piercing the zeitgeist of the Transfer Tavern.

Having been sold by Chelsea back in 2014 for £28m, in what seemed like a masterstroke by Jose Mourinho, the Belgian has since gone on to begin to fulfil the sort of potential many thought he had now at Everton.

A stunning season for the Toffees has seen him linked with £65m move to Manchester United and Bayern Munich, as well as an emotional return to Stamford Bridge.

It has proved to be an entirely divisive matter amongst our punters, who don’t doubt his talent, though suggest it could be the biggest transfer blunder of all time.

Well, those behind the scenes in West London are reportedly starting to take the same view.

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues have baulked at such a hefty price tag imposed on the forward by the Merseyside outfit.

While Lukaku himself is said to favour a return to his old stomping ground, it is claimed that Chelsea do not think his value has more than doubled since leaving the club despite a lethal season.

Is Lukaku worth anywhere near that sort of money, considering his age?
