Manchester United urged to pursue shock move

Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we remain astounded as Frank Lampard continues to save Chelsea, yet the club fail to offer him a new deal, and today the Mail Online report that Manchester United are being urged to sign the player up.

The pundit who seems to dub every Chelsea player ‘a good lad,’ Ray Wilkins has claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson simply has to sign Lamps up. Fergie of course does not feel that once you get to the age of 30 it is time to book your room at the old folks home, and given the performances he has coaxed out Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs to name but two, you can see why.

Just how Chelsea aren’t renewing a contract for a player who scores more from the middle of the park than any other midfielder is beyond us at the tavern. That aside, Lampard has shown since his return from injury that he is still a world class player and has plenty left to give.

After a man of the match winning performance yet again in the game against Everton, Wilkins claimed that: “He’ll cost nothing, he’s about four years younger than Giggs and Scholes and he scores goals from midfield. He’s scored more goals this year than Carrick, Cleverley and Scholes combined.” Sound advice from the former Chelsea coach considering that in the 11 games Lampard has played this term, he has netted six times.
