The Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still up in the air as to what to expect from this summer. It’s an important time for the Blues in the bar, with the club falling behind the Manchester giants in terms of spending, as well as Tottenham and Liverpool in trying to compete.
With that in mind, reports from Yahoo Sport have proven rather worrying. Indeed, in Duncan Castles’ report, he reveals that senior director Marina Granovskaia does not wish to give any potential manager too much authority over transfer dealings. Indeed, that seems to have been a problem for Antonio Conte this season, who has constantly complained about a lack of investment.
The Blues have reigned in the spending all too much in recent years and, having stopped the process on a new stadium, the punters propping up our bar are fearing the worst. Granovskaia has never truly been the most popular figure amongst the Stamford Bridge faithful and these reports have only heightened the feelings against her.
To be fair, it makes total financial sense in Chelsea’s current climate. However, our punters are starting to agree with Conte in his constant moaning if this really is the case and believe the Blues could face more misery. Surely no truly top manager will want to come and work under that structure, so you can understand the concerns.
