Chelsea fans will be excited about the future after watching Mason Mount make an impressive start to life at Derby.

Mount completed a season-long loan move to Pride Park to link up with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. The youngster has made a blistering start to life in the Championship and scored on his debut against Reading to help his side to a 2-1 victory. The 19-year-old also netted against Oldham to help Derby progress to the next round of the Carabao Cup.

His excellent form will no doubt delight Chelsea supporters who have high hopes of Mount breaking the mould and entering the Chelsea first-team after various loan spells. The youngster spent last season in the Eredivisie with Vitesse. He scored 14 goals and notched nine assists in 32 appearances. Chelsea will be glad to see his form continuing back in England.

Working with Lampard, Mount is in the perfect place to continue his development. Guaranteed first-team football in a competitive division like the Championship will help prepare the youngster for life in the Premier League. Former Chelsea youth coach, Jody Morris, also joined Lampard at the Rams which will help Mount tremendously. Should his performances continue, Mount could challenge for a starting berth at Stamford Bridge next season.

If he continues to score, Mount will definitely catch the eye of England manager – Gareth Southgate. The former Middlesbrough man has shown he is willing to give youth a chance to impress for the Three Lions and there is no reason why the 19-year-old can’t be the next player to make the grade.

Time will tell whether Mount has a future at Chelsea, but the signs are positive so far.
