Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have received a welcome boost ahead of their Champions League clash against Roma, with news of star-striker Alvaro Morata’s return to training.
The Spaniard was pictured practising at Chelsea’s Cobham training facility on Sunday, the Express reports, following a brief spell on sidelines during the international break after he limped off in the West-London club’s 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester City a fortnight ago. The former Real Madrid forward has quickly established himself as a key cog in Antonio Conte’s machine so when he picked up the infamous hamstring strain, our resident Blues in the bar feared he would absent for an extended period of time.
However, he appears to have made a miraculous recovery and could feature in Wednesday’s meeting with the Italians. Chelsea suffered a surprise 2-1 reverse at Premier League ‘basement boys’ Crystal Palace at the weekend as the effect of losing Morata- who has six domestic goals already this season- and Michy Batshuayi proving an inadequate substitute contributed to their downfall at Selhurst Park. So the prospect of his return should help last year’s league champions rediscover that level of performance and that winning touch.
With that in mind, here’s how the Stamford Bridge faithful reacted to the news on Twitter…
Back to back games against Roma in the champions league hopefully Morata is fully fit can’t see Conte taking any chances if he wasn’t #cfc

I'm not sure Morata will start or even play vs. Roma. However I really hope he'll start againist Watford. Masterclass needed from him. Expect an Azpi cross to be headed in by him and a tap in. It's clear we can't count on Batshuayi for 90 minutes. #CFC #CHEWAT
