Antonio Conte’s name has been celebrated both often and loudly by the punters propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern after leading Chelsea to the Premier League title.
Thanks to his tactical tinkerings and animated touchline antics, the Italian is proving to be one of the most popular Blues bosses in recent years, though reports from the Sun indicate things aren’t all happy families in west London.
They claim the former Juventus and Italy coach is facing a battle with top brass at Stamford Bridge over keeping star striker Diego Costa. The Spaniard has been strongly linked with moves away from the club in recent months, despite his pivotal role in restoring Chelsea to the top of English football.
Indeed, Conte is said to have personally pleaded with Chelsea chiefs and is thought to have praised the forward’s unique ability to lead the line, reportedly believing Costa is key to the club’s challenge both domestically and in Europe next term.
Such is the popular nature of Costa amongst our punters, they hope he sticks around.
