Michi Batshuayi was on target on Thursday evening as Belgium comfortably beat Iceland 2-0 in their UEFA Nations League group match.

The striker found the back of the net twice, emphasising that he might be just the player Chelsea need back at their club to sort out their centre-forward problems.

Batshuayi is currently on his second loan spell of the year after completing a five-month stint at Borussia Dortmund before moving to Valencia to compete in La Liga for the season.

The 25-year-old made an immediate impact when he moved to Germany and many thought he might form part of Maurizio Sarri's takeover plans at Stamford Bridge in the summer, but was instead snubbed again.

But the inconsistency and lack of goals by Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud have sent a strong warning to Sarri that he would drastically need to improve his attacking options if the Blues were to genuinely challenge for the title this season.

And Batshuayi could be a simple and effective solution to that problem. Bringing him back would spare Chelsea the costs of making an expensive signing in January and given the fact that not a lot of big-name players move club in this specific transfer window, Batshuayi would be the ideal addition for the latter part of the season.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Inter Milan superstar Mauro Icardi and, while the Argentine is certainly a wonderful forward, why spend so much money when there's an option already on the books at Stamford Bridge?

Indeed, imagine just how much Roman Abramovich would like that...

Batshuayi's pace and power up front have proven to be an important part in how he scores his goals and has reaped awards for both Dortmund and Valencia. Adding him to the current Chelsea squad would create a great deal of competition amongst the three strikers, especially because Sarri has been rotating this position in the Europa League.

With the West London club also still featuring in the League Cup, Batshuayi's presence might start to bring out the best in Morata and Giroud, while there is also the FA Cup to look ahead to at the start of next year.
