It seems only yesterday that here at the Football Transfer Tavern we were discussing the future of Neymar and the seemingly inevitable move to Barcelona. However The Mirror report that the player has claimed he will be staying at Santos.
Neymar claimed that the move to Barcelona is not a done deal and is far from the only club he would consider, which puts admirers Chelsea and Manchester City on red alert. In less than pleasing news for the clubs however, Neymar has claimed he will be remaining at Santos for the foreseeable future.
The Brazilian has been one of the most coveted properties in football since bursting onto the scene and his comments such as: “I am happy at Santos, with my family, son, friends, so it’s not the moment to leave” will disappoint clubs – especially Manchester City who flew Txiki Begiristain out to Brazil to meet with the player recently.
There is light at the end of the tunnel however as the 20-year-old did talk about a move to a European club and disclosed: “That moment will come because I have the dream of playing in Europe since I was a kid, but that moment hasn’t come yet.”
For now the Brazilian who many feel will one day become the best in the world has the Confederations Cup and indeed the World Cup on home turf to look forward to – something to keep even the very best busy as we head into 2013.
