Chelsea are getting back into the swing of things and with the inclusion of a few late signings, their team could well be good enough to sustain a place within the top four.
Maurizio Sarri, only a matter of games ago, was seemingly under real pressure to bring the best out of his team again, which he has done recently.
The season is a long one though, meaning his team will need to continue their strong performances of late to sustain their hopes of finishing in the top four and achieving a trophy if at all possible.
To do that, they need good options and strong squad depth. With a few new faces in the January transfer window, Chelsea know that they need to do more, especially if players leave the club this month.
With talk of Olivier Giroud leaving the club, the Blues could find a suitable replacement in the form of Atletico Madrid striker Nikola Kalinic.
Kalinic, (who is valued at £12.6 million on Transfermarkt) hasn’t enjoyed his best goal-scoring season but could still be an asset for Chelsea to acquire.
Having recently seen Alvaro Morata go the other way, (on-loan to Atletico Madrid) Chelsea are certainly owed one by the Spanish club, who could repay their thanks by loaning the 31-year-old to Stamford Bridge.
The Croatian forward has scored four times this season and barring in mind that he’s only started 11 times, that isn’t a bad return.
Like Olivier Giroud, he isn’t blessed with pace but his neat touches and ability in the air brings out some similarities.
Alongside Gonzalo Higuian, Kalinic could provide good competition for places and gives Chelsea the option to say goodbye to Giroud or not.
