Chelsea finished the January window with a bit of a whimper really, with no real big additions made barring the one striker swap they concluded earlier in the window.
The swap deal, involving Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain, could be a season defining moment for the Blues, who have brought in the former Real Madrid and Napoli striker as they hope to get someone at the top end of pitch who can fire in the goals.
However, despite Higuain’s reputation on the continent and his obvious good form at Napoli in days gone by, we here in the Tavern feel that the Blues might have missed the boat and ,made a big error bringing in the Argentinian star.
It looks at first glance that the striker’s best days might be behind him, indeed, there has to be reason that AC Milan have allowed him to move on after what was a largely unsuccessful spell a the San Siro.
His first few appearances have done little to inspire either, with the 4-0 rout at Bournemouth in the middle of the week hardly doing Higuain any favours as he looks to settle in English football.
It might be that we are proven wrong and that Higuain does indeed fire the Blues to a top four spot or beyond, but there is just something about this deal not sitting right.
With young English talent like Tammy Abraham on loan at Aston Villa, and Michy Batshuyai being allowed to move on loan, we just think that Chelsea might have already had the answer in the squad instead of moving for the experienced striker.
