The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have largely been delighted about their work in the market so far this summer, though would like to see Antonio Conte draft in some more reinforcements.
Indeed, while the likes of Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoué Bakayoko have arrived in west London since the close of the campaign, the Blues in the bar are aware they are largely just replacements for key players.
Rudiger kind of replaces John Terry, while Morata will surely replace Diego Costa and the same with Bakayoko for Nemanja Matic. So, happy as they are, they’d like to see an increase in options, ahead of a much busier campaign next term.
The pair are entering the final year of their deals at Arsenal and Everton respectively and the Premier League champions are understood to want to increase their homegrown quota.
Conte is thought to be an admirer of the ‘The Ox’ due to his versatility, with the central midfielder/winger even operating as a right-wing-back last term, while Chelsea are believed to have a long-standing interest in attacking midfielder, Barkley.
As you can imagine, the idea of bringing both to the Bridge has seriously excited our punters from SW6.
If Chelsea are able to bring two fairly young and immensely talented England internationals to their squad, they absolutely should do. Both players would seriously strengthen Conte’s squad next season, though perhaps it wouldn’t be the best move for them on a personal basis.
With so many illustrious attacking options available to the Italian coach right now, neither would instantly command regular starting berths, which both desperately need right now.
