Our local Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, confident as they were during their 13-match winning run until last week, are desperately hoping their beloved Blues can return to winning ways against champions Leicester City this weekend.
As Antonio Conte plots to steal the Foxes’ crown, the Italian’s job this season has been made all the more easy by the stunning form of striker Diego Costa. After a relatively poor campaign last year, the Spaniard has returned to the forefront of lethal Premier League strikers to spearhead the title challenge in SW6.
Though the La Roja ace has largely been a joy to watch, summer signing Michy Batshuayi will be wondering if he’s ever going to get a chance. Nothing the Belgian can do can push Costa out of the starting XI now and he’s been linked with loan moves to the likes of West Ham United and Swansea City.
While the touted moves generally centre around the loan option, reports emanating out of France today suggest the 23-year-old has attracted admirers hoping for a more permanent arrangement. According to L’Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain are hoping to lure the former Marseille ace back to Ligue 1.
The French champions have reportedly identified him as the man they wish to pair Edinson Cavani with at the Parc de Princes and director of football Patrick Kluivert is said to be particularly keen on luring Batshuayi back to France.
The Chelsea fans propping up our bar don’t want him to leave at all, however. Many of our west London drinkers view him as Costa’s heir-apparent and would loathe to see him depart.
