Eyebrows have been raised in the Football Transfer Tavern after QPR boss Harry Redknapp confirmed the speculation that he wants to sign Tottenham’s Jake Livermore and West Ham United’s Mohamed Diame.
Redknapp’s side are still five points from safety despite their shock win over Chelsea on Wednesday night and he has been promised funds to bolster his Hoops squad for the relegation fight.
Harry knows Livermore from his time at White Hart Lane and is looking to bring him on loan for the rest of the season while Diane has a bargain £3.5 million release clause in his Hammers contract.
He told the Evening Standard: “Jake’s a good player. I have bags of time for him and if Spurs want to do anything it would interest me.
“Diame’s a good player, too. I’d love to have him here but he belongs to West Ham until they decide if they want to sell him.
“I speak to them [the QPR board] every day about who I want, we go through the list and see if there is anyone we can find. We will come up with one or two before too long.
“Getting out of trouble will be almost as good as winning something with the position we’re in. It’s better than sitting in mid-table and seeing the season out.”
However Redknapp has ruled out mooted moves for Michael Dawson and Tim Cahill.
He added: “They are both top players but it will only be a short-term loan and that’s the problem. You take them for just six weeks but then you lose them at a time when you still have another 10-12 games to stay up. They’d improve any team but I’m not close to doing anything with them.”
