QPR are in desperate need to strengthem their squad ahead of their long awaited return to the Barclay’s Premier League. Their opening game did not go to plan as they were trounced 4-0 by a rabid Bolton team. Neil Warnock is aware of his need to strengthen and is moving for Patrick van Aanholt as a defensive reinforcement.
Van Aanholt, who plays as an adventurous left-back, has a significant amount of Championship experience but has only managed cameos for the Chelsea first team. A loan to QPR would provide him with the next step in his career and the locale is perfect. Not only is the loan a cheap option for QPR and Warnock but it is also a high quality one. van Aanholt is a talented defender who could hold his own in the Premier League and would represent a good addition to the squad at Loftus Road.
He maintains a decent passing range and first touch while providing an element of composure on the ball. The years of close tuition from Ashley Cole appear to have rubbed off on him in a positive way as he is in no way reluctant to bomb forward and offer an attacking prong to his team.
The main question is; Will the rumours of this loan disappear now that QPR have finalised a takeover and possess money to spend? Was this the cheap option that will now be dropped in favour of a permanent signing? Either way, van Aanholt would be a good addition to the QPR squad this season.
