Chelsea’s youth policy has been a huge source of frustration for the Blues in the Transfer Tavern over the years, with many of them lamenting the fact that some of their burgeoning talents are doused to their lowest embers, only to alight elsewhere.
Amid the club’s high profile chases for the likes of Kostas Manolas and Kalidou Koulibaly, the punters propping up the bar this evening have been disheartened to read reports from German outlet Kicker regarding a certain Andreas Christensen.
The 20-year old is halfway through a two-year loan Borussia Monchengladbach, with the Bundesliga giants said to be desperate to make it a more permanent fixture.
Despite his standing as one of the most formidable stoppers in German football, it looks increasingly unlikely he will be handed a regular standing berth in West London.
Die Fohlen are understood to have tabled a club-record bid for the Danish international, one that has been snubbed by top brass at Stamford Bridge, though those at Borussia-Park remain confident over a deal.
“The Chelsea contact is very, very close. There is definitely a chance. How high the price will be, is something which will now need to be discussed”, said sporting director Max Erbel.
