Chelsea have quite clearly had a troubled season but with a Champions League spot up for grabs, Maurizio Sarri could make amends by achieving that for the Blues. Kind of, at least. Right now, it's not looking as if the Italian has the fans onside.

With two ways of qualifying, Chelsea must really fancy their chances as they get to the business end of the season.

They have the players to do it, now they just need to deliver as they bid to ensure their return into clubs best competition.

Next season will be a completely different challenge entirely for the Blues and with a transfer ban likely to limit incomings, Chelsea may have to turn to their own current players once again. Though one man who could make a huge difference defensively judging by his performances this season is Reece James.

James, (who is valued at £900k on Transfermarkt) is a defender who has massively thrived since going out on-loan this season.

A loan spell is designed to give a player experience and ultimately then come back to his parent club a better player all-around, which is exactly what Reece James has done. Despite playing for struggling Championship side Wigan, James has been instrumental for them, going on to score three goals and provide three assists, in 43 appearances.

The 19-year-old right-back has enjoyed a fantastic campaign at the DW Stadium and was recently named in the Championship Team of the Year, prompting many Chelsea fans, understandably, to demand his inclusion in the senior setup next season. Indeed, Manchester United were even linked with a move, such has been the nature of his performances.

Despite being young and relatively inexperienced apart from this season, a role in the Chelsea first-team is no less than he deserves after a brilliant campaign. Anything to stop a rival getting him.
