According to the ‘Daily Mail’, Man City have targeted Athletic Bilbao midfielder and Spain Under-21 captain Javi Martinez. The dynamic 23-year-old has a long list of admirers including Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United and will cost them a bid of £34m to prize him away.
Martinez had a buy out clause of £34m added to his latest contract which could get the likes of big money-spenders City interested.
World cup winner Martinez led Spain to victory in the Euro Under-21 Championship final courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Switzerland in June. The 6 ft 3 midfielder has drawn comparisons to Spanish compatriot Xabi Alonso as he mixes both creative and technical brilliance along with positional discipline.
Martinez commented on reported interest from United “When you hear of interest from United, you feel proud but I’m happy at Athletic.’
