There is nothing we like more in the Football Transfer Tavern than an up and coming star (well apart from any free beer!) and news of Partizan Belgrade’s Lazar Markovic and his future is something that is firmly on our radar.
Despite a host of clubs from around Europe showing interest in the star – including Chelsea and Inter Milan, the 18-year-old looks set to stay at his current club at least for the near future, with Sky Sports reporting that his manager claimed to Serbian newspaper Novisti: “Until now nobody has come to us with a concrete offer for Markovic.
“It is true that there are many clubs that are interested in him but as things stand right now. He will stay with us until the end of the season for sure and then in June, we will see what happens.”
The £10 million rated player did look set to spark a bidding war in January with the midfielder already having netted 6 times in 12 games this season, yet this latest denial from the club is a clear attempt to hold on to their star asset and potentially hike up the price come the summer.
Despite his slender years, Markovic has already made his senior international debut for Serbia and is the latest in a long line of talents to emerge from the country. It wasn’t that long ago that Manchester United were being linked with his national compatriot Adem Ljajic who currently plies his trade in Serie A for Fiorentina.
