Growing ever bitter rivals Chelsea and Arsenal are hard pressed to find much to agree on, particular in the Transfer Tavern after Happy Hour.
Still, what the rivalry certainly didn’t need was the notion of a player getting between the two capital counterparts and further muddying the waters.
According to Football Insider, the Gunners have raced ahead in the chase to land Roma defender Kostas Manolas after the Blues decided to focus their attentions on teammate Radja Nainggolan.
With defensive frailty dogging both the sides this season, the Greek international had been linked with moves to both North and West London.
Arsene Wenger is believed to have cast his eye over the defender for the past two years as he bids to draft in reinforcements to bolster his defensive ranks, with the player having joined I Giallorossi in 2014 from Olympiacos.
Antonio Conte is also thought to have cast his eye over him in an attempt to find a long term successor to John Terry, though will now reportedly focus his attentions firmly on the combative Naingggolan.
In turn, that will allow Arsenal free passage as one of hottest defensive properties on the continent.
Would Manolas be a good signing for Arsenal? Or should they be looking at other centre-backs?
