The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are still celebrating their club’s incredible comeback victory over Southampton on Saturday. From 2-0 with 20 minutes left to play, the Blues fought back for an incredible 3-2 victory, courtesy of an Olivier Giroud brace and Eden Hazard strike. Gary Cahill, speaking in an interview for the Chelsea website, claimed that Giroud was fantastic when he came on to get the winning goals, leading the fans to discuss whether the Frenchman should be starting.

Chelsea have been going through a strange season so far. The club looked like they were going to go on and secure a top-four spot with relative ease as Christmas, although they’re now seven points off of 4th placed Spurs and with just five games remaining it’s hard to see them breaking into a Champions League spot before the end of the year. If they can keep winning games they’ll have an outside shot, although the performances will have to mirror the last 20 minutes of Saturday’s game as opposed to the first 70 if that’s to happen.
It’s fair to say that Olivier Giroud really announced himself as a Chelsea player on Saturday. The 31-year-old trebled his Chelsea goal tally from one to three in just eight second-half minutes at St Mary’s, showing shades of the target-man that Antonio Conte needed when he signed in January. The fans though, are yet to be convinced by the Frenchman, although his Spanish strike partner, Alvaro Morata hasn’t done much to keep Giroud out of the team as of late with his poor form.

Can everyone now see the difference when we have a number 9 that can hold the ball up without falling over?

Ironic that the French guy was the only one fighting for the victory on Saturday! Well done @_OlivierGiroud_ with more displays like that then he will be taken to Chelsea’s hearts

Morata has nothing to offer up front, he keeps falling, no fire,no energy,no strength, only mouth fights.

He showed the fight, strength and desire that was sadly lacking until that point too! We showed what we can do when we want to though and need to keep playing with that intent and determination. #KTBFFH
