It looks highly like Thibaut Courtois is on his way to Real Madrid, with the Spanish side thought to be waiting on Chelsea to find a replacement before the deal gets done.

Courtois had made the Chelsea number 1 spot his own since the 2014/15 campaign. The Belgian will be a big loss for Chelsea, but Sarri has options available to him to replace the imposing keeper.

The role of the goalkeeper is becoming increasingly important in the modern game. Goalkeepers are increasingly expected to play a part in the game in a forward-thinking role. Distribution, passing ability and reading the game are now all part of what a goalkeeper is expected to be able to do with ease. Shot stopping and commanding the area remain important, but it is their ball playing ability which is now increasingly under scrutiny.

The increasing importance of the role of the goalkeeper has been evidenced with Liverpool shelling out a record fee on a goalkeeper for £65m. The ball-playing aspect of the goalkeeper led to the end of Joe Hart as a regular at Manchester City.

Chelsea need to replace their Belgian stopper with real quality if they plan to break back into the top four, let along challenge for the title.

With that in mind, here are two goalkeepers which would help Chelsea forget all about Thibaut Courtois...

The Leicester stopper was pivotal in their Premier League winning 2015/16 season.

A crucial player for Leicester City for many seasons, Schmeichel is one of the best goalkeepers the Premier League has to offer. His shot-stopping and command of the area are top quality, and he would come in and easily make the number one spot his own.

Son of legendary keeper Peter Schmeichel, Kasper had an excellent World Cup with Denmark.

The 31-year-old would come to Stamford Bridge ready to make the number 1 spot his own.

The young Italian keeper is incredibly still just 19. He has made over 100 Serie A appearances for AC Milan already. He has been capped six times for Italy already.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is valued at £36m by Transfermarkt.

With his young age, Donnarumma would be ready to end the number one debate at Stamford Bridge for years to come. He has potential to get even better with his young age, and with the value of goalkeepers currently sky-rocketing, he could be a sound investment for the future.
