The Chelsea supporters in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their side can close the gap on league-leaders Manchester City in the weeks to come.
Earlier this week, Chelsea recorded a 3-1 victory away at Huddersfield to temporarily close the gap at the top of the Premier League table to just 11 points, but City dispatched of Swansea with total ease the following evening to restore their 14 point advantage at the summit. There were very few major talking points to emerge from proceedings after Chelsea’s routine win over Huddersfield, however, there was one topic that stirred up plenty of excitement from the Blues supporters on Twitter.
With ten minutes of regulatory time to play at The John Smith’s Stadium, Antonio Conte made it a night to remember for Chelsea’s Welsh prospect Ethan Ampadu, as he sent the 17-year-old on to replace Andreas Christensen.
Chelsea recently acquired Ampadu from Exeter City where he made 13 first-team appearances last season.
The youngster has needed to exert patience whilst waiting for an opportunity this campaign, as he has been an unused substitute on 6 occasions in the Premier League this year.
And Chelsea’s official Twitter page acknowledged the youngster’s moment in the spotlight with a post dedicated to the Welshman.

I'm an Exeter fan where Ampadu came from. You guys have one hell of a player. Never seen anyone read the game as well as him at our level. Good luck Ethan

It would be too harsh to say that he was responsible for the goal conceded at Huddersfield. But to put it into a positive context, it was a steep learning curve on his PL debut. More too come from the talented young lad.
