In the Football Transfer Tavern we are busting with excitement with the breaking news from the Liverpool official website that confirms that the Reds have completed the signing of Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge.
The player had long been rumoured to be joining Brendan Rodgers’ side and was even pictured on a train going to Liverpool over the Christmas period of his medical. A deal has now been reached with Chelsea for the England international and the move has gone ahead as expected.
The 23-year-old had fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea and in order to continue his progress and get first team football, a move away was required for the player. The fee for Sturridge is believed to be around £12 million.
Sturridge himself has been quoted on the official Liverpool Twitter account talking about his new club, claiming: “I am humbled and happy to be here. Brendan Rodgers said he sees me here for a long time – and I also see myself here for a long time. I’ve signed to be here for as long as possible. It’s a humongous club.”
