As ever during silly season, the many fans in the Transfer Tavern have had to deal with a lorry load of strange rumours and reports this summer.
Indeed, today, it’s the Chelsea fans who’ve had to discuss a rather bizarre transfer tidbit from the Sun.
They claim Serie A champions Juventus have contacted the Blues over a potential move for captain, Gary Cahill. The England international was only handed the armband on a full-time basis this summer after the departure of John Terry, though is understood to have admirers over in Turin.
The Old Lady are believed to have made initial contact over a move for the 31-year-old as they look to replace Leonardo Bonucci, who joined domestic rivals AC Milan earlier in the window.
According to the report, Antonio Conte is yet to figure out just how big a part Cahill will play in his side this summer. With Antonio Rudiger having arrived and the likes of David Luiz, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta, Cahill is said to be seen as the most disposable right now.
Still, ahead of a much busier campaign this time around, our west London locals hope he’s kept on.
Cahill may be prone to a mistake now and then, though should definitely be kept on at Chelsea this summer. Their squad is already paper thin and his experience in winning titles will be crucial.
