Talking Tactics: How Maurizio Sarri can win Chelsea the Community Shield today

Chelsea will be desperate to begin their season with a piece of silverware in the form of the Community Shield. Indeed, the Blues managed to secure the FA Cup last season, but they’ll be searching for even more in the new campaign.

The Blues will fancy their chances in the Premier League under new management after witnessing the disasters of last season under Antonio Conte. And, with the addition of Jorginho, there’s no reason as to why the Blues can’t enjoy success after bringing in a player in a position that hurt Chelsea last season.

Next up for Chelsea is a game with fellow Premier League side Manchester City in the Community Shield. The Citizens splashed the cash on Riyad Mahrez this summer but the Blues did beat Pep Guardiola’s side to the signing of Jorginho, so there’s an added incentive for Man City to come away with the win.

Therefore, having taken Sarri’s selections from Chelsea’s pre-season games into consideration, we’ve come up with a team that we think the Italian could line up with against Manchester City.

Have a look below to see the entire potential team in FULL…

CHELSEA’S POTENTIAL TEAM VS MAN CITY

We’ve gone with a 4-3-3 formation, as that is the formation that Sarri made use of during pre-season, which has served them well in recent times. The Blues enjoyed the majority of their success out wide last season in the form of Eden Hazard and Willian, so this will be one of the main areas of attack against a resolute Manchester City defence.

The Blues are reportedly searching for a replacement for Thibaut Courtois, so Sarri should hesitate to give him the starting place in-between the sticks in an important match, instead opting for Willy Caballero.

In defence, the Blues will look to keep the Citizens’ dangerous attackers at bay by deploying Cesar Azpilicueta on the right-hand side of defence, with Marcus Alonso on the opposite flank. Meanwhile, Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz will form a partnership at the heart of the defence as arguably Chelsea’s strongest pairing.

Jorginho will be looking to show Manchester City what they missed out on by delivering yet another impressive performance at Wembley Stadium. The Brazilian will play alongside Cesc Fabregas and World Cup winner N’Golo Kante, with the latter working hard to protect the defensive four behind him.

The Blues’ front line will consist of Pedro, Alvaro Morata and Callum Hudson-Odoi. The youngster will be desperate to hit the ground running domestically after helping his nation enjoy an outstanding pre-season campaign. Meanwhile, Morata has a point to prove after dropping off the pace last season, with Pedro earning a starting place after an impressive pre-season.
