The Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are nervous about what the summer holds. Indeed, with planning stopping over a new stadium and nobody quite knowing what the future holds managerial wise, the Blues in our bar really aren’t too sure what will happen.
However, a report in the Evening Standard has at least cleared up what happens in regards to one of their key stars. According to them, ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois is planning to talk to the club about his future this summer, as was the original plan. Obviously, the Belgian has been linked with a move away from the club of late, though it seems he’s keen to sit down a talk to his current employers.
No talks have taken place of yet but there is reportedly a plan to discuss the situation after the World Cup, with the former Atletico Madrid man having only a year left on his contract. Despite an inconsistent campaign, it’s good news for the Blues, who need to keep a hold of their key men.
Courtois hasn’t had the best of seasons, though remains one of the top goalkeepers in the world on his day. Indeed, securing his future would be massive – especially for the team outside the Champions League – and a boost to Chelsea’s hopes of ensuring a strong season next year.
