Chelsea sealed Premier League success on Friday night but face a task in hand this summer to improve their squad, as they look to balance their title defence next season with a return to the Champions League.
The depth of Antonio Conte’s squad is relatively bare at the moment and he’ll be tested to improve his options, with central midfield likely to be a focus amidst continued chat here in the Transfer Tavern that Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic could leave.
N’Golo Kante has excelled since his arrival from Leicester City last summer but Chelsea need a top-class midfield partner for their Frenchman – and Roma’s Radja Nainggolan is the ideal recruit to draft in this summer.
Chelsea have reportedly been scouting the 29-year-old Belgian international this season and a move this summer would be a significant statement of intent, giving the Blues a combative midfielder capable of grabbing the headlines in the same fashion as Philippe Coutinho, Kevin De Bruyne and Paul Pogba.
After a decade in Italian football, £34m-rated Nainggolan may well be looking for a fresh challenge this summer and the opportunity to be a star at Chelsea would be difficult for him to turn down.
Versatile, combative and world-class, Nainggolan would take Chelsea to the next level.
Roma would likely command a huge fee for his services but the Serie A outfit face a stern test this summer to keep their key-players at the club, but the arrival of Monchi as sporting director could bring a wealth of changes, following his tremendous success at Sevilla.
Monchi may approve a sale of the experienced Nainggolan and opt to bring in a younger player as a replacement, which could play into Chelsea’s hands, and our landlord believes a midfield partnership of Kante and Nainggolan would be incredibly difficult to break down.
Would Nainggolan be the ideal partner for Kante next season? Let us know in the comments below!
