The Chelsea XI Sarri should have built

Chelsea will be desperate to kick on and cement their place in the top four from here on in until the end of the season, with Champions League football being a must in Maurizio Sarri’s first season.

The Blues have crumbled under the pressure at times this season against teams that they really should be beating, so improvements are definitely required during the second half of the campaign.

Injuries will always play a part as the season progresses, but if they weren’t a problem and everything had gone their way up until this point in the January transfer window, then Sarri would have an even stronger team at his disposal.

With that being said, this is the Chelsea XI Sarri should have built…

THE CHELSEA XI SARRI SHOULD HAVE BUILT

Kepa Arrizabalaga has been rather impressive in-between the sticks for the Blues this season after joining for a large fee back in the summer transfer window.

The Blues have been rather solid at the back as the likes of David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger, Marcus Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta continue to secure starting places, so there was no reason to go out and bring in defensive additions.

In midfield, the London club could have done with bringing in Nicolo Barella, who was reportedly (as per Corriere dello Sport, via The Sun) the subject of a £45 million bid from Chelsea, but things have gone quiet. The 21-year-old has established himself as one of the most promising midfielders in world football, having impressed on the international stage and in the Serie A at current club Cagliari. He could easily slot into the position that Ross Barkley and Mateo Kovacic are currently fighting for, with the ability to affect the game in defensive and attacking areas.

The Blues’ attack would stay pretty much the same, with Eden Hazard and Willian operating on either wing at the expense of Pedro, who has impressed but just misses out on the starting XI. Gonzalo Higuain joined Chelsea on loan recently, so he will be tasked with producing a consistent flow of goals from here on in after witnessing Alvaro Morata’s poor displays in front of goal this season.
