Chelsea’s title win has been celebrated both often and loudly in the Transfer Tavern in recent days, though there remains some doubt as to whether star striker Diego Costa will be sticking about.
While the Spaniard proved instrumental to the Blues’ title tilt, he’s seemingly continually linked with a move to the Chinese Super League and, to be fair, many of our west London locals aren’t too concerned.
Clearly, Costa is a huge figure at Stamford Bridge, though the sort of fees the CSL can pay would likely make any offer well worth considering. So, who would replace him in SW6?
Well, unless you’ve been living under a rock of late, you’ll know both Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata have been strongly touted as potential targets for Antonio Conte.
However, here in the Taven, we’re inclined to ask why? For within their ranks, Chelsea boast one of the most exciting strikers in Europe.
Though Michy Batshuayi is an entirely type of centre-forward to the aformenetioned Spanish international, the Belgian certainly proved himself towards the end of the campaign.
While he’s still learning how to perfect his craft, the 23-year-old averaged a Premier League goal every 48 minutes of action during his first season on these shores and provides the Blues with a more mobile focal point in attack.
With Eden Hazard and Pedro floating around him, the former Marseille man allows for far more tactical fluidity than Costa, who operates largely as a battering ram to lead the line.
Rather than spend big money on the likes of Lukaku, Chelsea would be better served in letting the ‘Bat Man’ free and focusing on other areas of the squad.
