Manchester United Football Club are the latest big English club to be linked with a move to sign Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson.
Chelsea and Manchester City have both been linked with Sunderland’s home grown star since the start of the season and now Sir Alex Ferguson is said to have shown an interest in the youngster.
Sir Alex and his assistant Mike Phelan were at Ewood Park on Monday night to watch him play in Sunderland’s draw against Blackburn.
The twenty year old has been impressive for Steve Bruce’s side since he broke into the first team last season and is fast emerging as one of the most promising English midfielders in the Premiership.
Fabio Capello is said to be an admirer of Henderson and is tipped to include him in the England squad for the game against France next month.
Bruce faces a tough battle to retain his services and is understood to be determined to keep hold of Henderson who signed a new deal at the Stadium of Light last year.
However, the financial might of the clubs interested in the England Under-21 could mean that he will be prised away from Wearside.
Sunderland are said to value Henderson at around £15 million, which would be small change for Chelsea and City.
United can expect to have some transfer funds available if Rooney is to leave the club in January which could be invested in Henderson to help increase their midfield options.
