The 72, via journalist Alan Nixon, are reporting that Derby County have cooled their interest in signing Chelsea’s Jay Dasilva on loan.

Frank Lampard’s Rams were thought to be keen on bringing the 20-year-old to Pride Park, with the boss’ personal ties with Chelsea always going to help him get the deal over line. Derby have apparently decided to take their search for a left-back elsewhere though, leaving the door ajar for another club to swoop for Dasilva.

The England under-20 international has spent the past 2 seasons on loan with Charlton Athletic in League One. Last campaign marked something of a breakout for Dasilva who was a near ever-present in the Addicks’ side and won the club’s Young Player of the Year award.

Now he looks ready to make the step up to Championship level. Whilst plenty of clubs may be keen on the young talent, West Brom would be the perfect fit for him.

The Breakdown

There have been plenty of departures from the Hawthorns already this summer, following the club’s relegation from the Premier League, which has left Darren Moore’s defence threadbare.

Kieran Gibbs is the only recognised left-back remaining in the Baggies’ first team squad, and they’ll do well to hang onto the ex-Arsenal man before the window slams shut.

Even if Gibbs does stay at the club, he’ll require back up and a competitor. In the form of a loan deal that’ll cost West Brom very little financially, Dasilva would be a great option for them to pursue. In the case of Gibbs leaving the club, Dasilva may even be good enough to take his place as first choice.
