The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager to see their club lend an opportunity to at least one of their bright young talents next season, and recent reports suggest their wish is set to come true.
The resident Blues propping up our bar in the tavern take a keen interest in the development of their academy products, and one player in particular has caught the eye of the supporters whilst playing on loan at Vitesse this season, namely Mason Mount. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has been in sensational form in the Eridivisie this season as he has notched 8 goals and provided 9 assists from 29 appearances.
His performances have earned him the player of the year award for the club, so clearly he is a player with plenty of potential to become a star in English football. And according to The Sun, Mount could be rewarded for his fine form in Holland with a place in Chelsea’s first-team squad next season.
The report claims that Mount will report for pre-season training this summer ahead of the new season, and if he impresses with the senior side he could find himself knocking on the door of the starting eleven. Although the news has been greeted with delight by the Chelsea supporters who are desperate to see Mount succeed with the club, they are slightly concerned that his inclusion could suggest that Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be free to leave the club this summer.
Loftus-Cheek has spent the entirety of the season on loan at Crystal Palace where he has rapidly become a fan-favourite due to his confident performances in midfield which have been characterised by a diligent work-ethic and creative flair. At 22-years-old, it’s difficult to argue that Loftus-Cheek is a player for the future, especially on the evidence of his performances this season.
With Ross Barkley struggling to even get into Chelsea’s matchday squad and Mason Mount set to be added to the equation, it’s likely that Loftus-Cheek will become surplus to requirements this summer. Considering how well he has performed with the Eagles this season, Chelsea would be foolish to let him go, but the promotion of Mason Mount suggests that the Blues will be open to offers for the recently capped England international during the summer window.
