Chelsea fans experienced something unusual last week as they witnessed their side actually suffer a Premier League defeat.
St. James’ Park has become something of a bogey ground for the Blues in recent times. In fact, Newcastle United have won the fixture the past three seasons now and Jose Mourinho will have no doubt been privately fuming the opportunity to emulate the Arsenal ‘Invincibles’ of 2004 went down with a flat performance.
But what will have been of greater concern is that now the gap between themselves and second-placed Manchester City is just three points after Manuel Pellegrini’s in-form side picked up a 1-0 win over Everton at the Etihad Stadium later that day.
It was fast looking as though Chelsea were going to run away with the Premier League title but the manner in which City have responded in recent weeks suggest we have a race on our hands after all.
That may well see Mourinho enter the transfer market once again next month in the hope of strengthening in order to see off what could have been considered unexpected competition just a few weeks ago.
Here, we have identified what could be considered a dream Chelsea XI post deadline day.
