For years Manchester United were the team who struck fear in to the hearts of their opponents, but judging from this seasons results Chelsea have surpassed United as the team with the biggest ‘fear factor’.
The way in which Chelsea have been winning their games this season and last, means that players from other Premiership teams are sure to grimace at the thought of lining up against them.
The Chelsea team is not willing to just sit back once they have secured a lead. They push on and make sure the game is put beyond any doubt and usually humiliate their opponents in the process.
Until recently many of the teams that Manchester United played could be seen to be psychologically beaten before they had stepped out on the pitch.
However, United’s aura of invincibility seems to have waned and many teams have the belief that they can come away from matches against them with some hard earned points.
The United teams mindset opposes Chelsea in that they are more likely to score a goal or two and then sit back, rather than go on to thrash their opponents and it has cost them points already this season.
The loss of players like Ronaldo and Tevez means United are lacking in players who are desperate to get on the scoresheet in every game and could be attributed as to why they aren’t smashing teams in the same way Chelsea do.
Perhaps United could do with a few 6-0 victories to put the fear of God back into the rest of the Premiership.
