Chelsea’s January move off after £18m valuation?

4327024 (1)The Football Transfer Tavern is a hive of activity today as the winter transfer window reaches its conclusion.

Chelsea supporters sat in the bar have now been left looking up from their pints after the latest speculation reached us in the bar.

The Blues look unlikely to land land Saint-Etienne defender Kurt Zouma ahead of the Friday’s transfer deadline after his club placed an £18 million valuation on his services, according to today’s copy of The Mirror.

Jose Mourinho was reportedly planning to bring the 19-year-old to Stamford Bridge as he looks to strengthen his defence, but it is thought that this high valuation from the Ligue 1 club could put off any interest from SW6.

Saint-Etienne co-president Roland Romeyer has now stated: “Some clubs have launched a bid for the player, but we will not change our strategy.

“There have been discussions for Zouma with English, Italian and French clubs, but he will not be leaving this month unless we find an agreement with some of the potential buyers.

“If not, he will have to wait until the summer. We are under no obligation to sell.”

Zouma, who is regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe, is understood to be interested in a Premier League switch, with Manchester United and Newcastle United also thought to be tracking the French hard man.

He was the star of France’s Under-20 World Cup success in the summer and has been outlined a long-term replacement for John Terry at Stamford Bridge.
