Here in the Football Transfer Tavern, we always enjoy a bit of gossip, and now that the transfer window has closed, we have turned to the Daily Mail to provide what they can.
As our punters eat their pie and mash, they note that today, the publication has not disappointed, with some rather juicy claims about Chelsea new boy Samuel Eto’o on display.
The forward joined the Blues this summer from Anzhi Makhachkala after Jose Mourinho failed to bring in Wayne Rooney, and of course Mourinho knows the Cameroon international well from their successful time spent together at Inter Milan.
Now however, Eto’o has been accused of being selfish and a destructive force in the dressing room. These allegations came from Roberto Carlos – also formerly of Anzhi – who noted that during the striker’s time in Russia he only cared about himself.
Carlos stated: “I’ve known Eto’o since I was 16, and from that time on he’s always been a good guy who I’ve liked a lot.
“He’s a good person, but there a part of him that thinks ‘I, and not the group’, which is really damaging.
“When a footballer, instead of playing, is interested in signing players who are his friends… it’s confusing and strange.
“He did everything at Anzhi, except play football.”
Of course, as one of our punters quips, Eto’o really only joined Anzhi for a big pay day, so we can’t really blame him for having this attitude. One suspects it may be rather different under Mourinho however.
Will Eto’o be an outspoken member of the Blues squad or will he knuckle down and prove an asset? Let us know your thoughts below.
