Samuel Eto'oChelsea return to Premier League action this weekend sitting pretty at the top of the table.

Jose Mourinho’s men travel to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace in a repeat of the fixture that ultimately ended their title challenge last season.

A John Terry own goal saw the Blues fall to a 1-0 defeat last season in a game that typified Chelsea’s problems last term.

Capable of beating the big sides (doubles over Manchester City and Liverpool proved this), it was coming unstuck against the smaller sides that ultimately proved Chelsea’s downfall.

Mourinho has set about to rectify that this season, with the summer signings of Spanish duo Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas.

Both have made exceptional starts to their Chelsea careers, with Costa firing nine goals and Fabregas producing six assists to help the Blues be five points clear of nearest title rivals Manchester City at this early stage of the season.

The same success cannot be said of all Chelsea’s recent signings however, with a fair few falling into the ‘panic-buy’ category in recent seasons.

Here, we have identified the top five of recent times.
