The Daily Express claim that Chelsea have sensationally hijacked Manchester City’s move for Roma star Mehdi Benatia.
The West London club have reportedly offered the Italian club £18 million plus Blues striker Romelu Lukaku for his signature.
Jose Mourinho is desperate to bring the Moroccan international to Stamford Bridge according to reports in the Italian press.
Manchester City had already agreed personal terms with Benatia despite yet agreeing a fee with Roma with the Italian side holding out for at least £38 million.
That is because Chelsea rate Lukaku as £20 million along with the £18 million cash on top of the deal.
That has now seen the Blues accelerate into pole position ahead of the Manchester club with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United also interested in the former Udinese man.
It’s been a difficult start to pre-season for Manuel Pellegrini and his Citizens side, especially after Yaya Toure revealed that he might not be playing in the Premier League next season.
He’s not the only one set to be on the move with Joleon Lescott, Scott Sinclair, Gareth Barry, Jack Rodwell and James Milner all set to leave the club.
There’s also rumours doing the rounds that Real Madrid will offer a £60 million deal to the club for Sergio Aguero.
Aguero has been a sensation for Manchester City since signing in 2011 but he’s reportedly open to a move back to La Liga.
