The Newcastle United fans are gathered around the dartboard in The Transfer Tavern, discussing reports that a duo of Chinese clubs are after one of their midfield players.
The Daily Mail is reporting that both Shanghai Shenuha and Beijing Guoan have both made bids to take Cheick Tiote to the Far East.
With the deadline day in China being today the two clubs are keen to add Tiote to their ranks, despite Steve McClaren urging club officials to turn down bids for the midfielder should any come in.
Tiote has already seen a move to China fail earlier this week, with an initial £7 million offer from Guangzhou Evergrande being turned down by the Premier League side.
With the high wages on offer in China, Tiote is bound to have his head turned to a move to the Far East, but McClaren will want to keep hold of a player he sees as an asset in the club’s fight for survival in the Premier League.
Those Newcastle fans in The Tavern are not concerned about Tiote staying or going, and would just like to see an end to speculation sooner rather than later.
