It is turning into quite the season for Raheem Sterling both at club and international level with the 24-year-old getting his name on the scoresheet again for England last night.
Meanwhile, for Manchester City, he is set to reach the 20-goal mark in the Premier League, showing further evidence of the sort of goal scoring form he has been in this term.
And speaking after the Three Lions’ 5-1 win over Montenegro, BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton drooled over Raheem Sterling’s performance and made an argument for Real Madrid to sign the winger over Chelsea’s Eden Hazard when Zinedine Zidane looks to rebuild his squad in the summer.
“You have to say that Raheem Sterling is now world class,” Sutton wrote in a Daily Mail column. “If you were Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, surely you would want to buy him over Eden Hazard?
“Is there anything Sterling cannot do? His weight of pass is superb, his movement off the ball is lethal and he has become deadly in front of goal.”
Manchester City fans will be praying that the Englishman doesn’t attract any attention during the summer transfer window as he’s arguably City’s prized asset. Indeed, Sterling is one of Sheikh Mansour’s best ever Manchester City signings having taken them to new heights in the current campaign.
Whether Sterling is a better player than Hazard outright is debatable to say the least, but one thing for sure is that Real Madrid need another goalscorer in their ranks. And that is something Sterling has become under Pep Guardiola.
