Christian Benteke’s future at Crystal Palace in doubt

One man is thought to be fighting for his career at Crystal Palace following a difficult start to the season.

Christian Benteke has had a difficult time ever since joining the Eagles from Liverpool, however, the Daily Mail are claiming he could find his place in the starting XI under threat.

The Belgium international has a poor record for the Selhurst Park outfit, having netted just twice in the whole of 2018 and is struggling to justify the huge price they paid to sign him.

Benteke had to sit out of their victory against Huddersfield Town on Saturday with a knee injury and to make matters worse for him, the man that replaced him in the team could do so on a permanent basis.

Jordan Ayew, who joined from Swansea City in the summer, impressed Roy Hodgson with his performance against the Terriers and could look to be named as a starter when they meet Newcastle United at the weekend.

Benteke could even be offloaded in the near future, with Palace preparing to turn their attention to finding targets who can replace him and provide them with the goal threat they so clearly lack.

The Verdict:

Benteke’s time at Selhurst Park has been pretty miserable for him and Crystal Palace.

The 27-year-old is the club’s record transfer at £27million, however, he has massively failed to show why the south London outfit spent that much on him.

Now, with Ayew seemingly impressing and with Alexander Sorloth and Connor Wickham as options as well, Benteke could find that his time is limited in the first-team, and in fact, at the club.
