Manchester City fans are looking up with excitement here in the Football Transfer Tavern after the latest claim from the Daily Mirror who note that defender Joleon Lescott is set to stay at the club.
Last season under Roberto Mancini, the club were slightly less than assured at the back and even skipper and former star man during their title winning campaign Vincent Kompany was not at the top of his game. Injuries and suspensions also played a part but one thing that did look sure was the fact that England International Lescott would be leaving the club.
As we all know in football however, things can change rather quickly and now it seems that new manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen on keeping the defender and given the long term injury to Matija Nastasic who sustained ligament damage during the friendly against Sunderland, it now seems that Lescott could well have a bigger chance to impress his new boss than he first thought.
City have been heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid defender Pepe, yet Pellegrini was remaining coy on moves for any other player, noting that “I said the other day that we could do something else before the Premier League season starts, but maybe we’ll stay with the same squad.
“At the moment we aren’t that concerned about that, but I’m very happy with the squad we have.”
