Every Summer there is a long boring drawn out transfer saga, and previously that has included players such as Cesc Fabregas, Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, well it now looks as if the Argentine is going to put us through it all again.
Reports over the weekend suggested that Inter Milan had agreed terms with the City forward, however our friends at talkSPORT today inform us that the Eastlands club have dismissed the Italian sides offer out of hand.
Tevez has a penchant for changing clubs every couple of years, and the cynic in me would suggest that is more down to the players representative, Kia Joorabchian, lining his pocket with agent’s fee’s as opposed to the player genuinely wanting to move so often.
His departure this Summer probably wouldn’t come as a surprise to many City fans, his apparent unhappiness in December seemed to blow over very quickly and conveniently, and I think many were impressed with how the club handled the situation. Many though expected it to only be a short term agreement, and a lot of us have been preparing for his exit at the end of the season.
The surprise really came with it being Inter Milan who were leading the chase, whilst they are clearly a massive club it seemed highly unlikely that they would have the money required to secure the forward. I wrote this weekend about the possibility of Roberto Mancini going for Wesley Sneijder as part of any deal for the Argentine, and I still believe that if he is to move to Serie A at the end of this term it would take money and a player to convince the Eastlands hierarchy to sell.
talkSPORT bring us reports from Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport regarding this rejection, the media outlet claim that the offer coming from Inter was for £30million, and that City have dismissed it out of hand and claimed it to be ‘insufficient’.
Interestingly talkSPORT go on to claim that the Milan side will now turn their attention to Udinese forward Alexis Sanchez who was previously thought to be all but signed by Manchester City.
At this point everything is about as clear as mud, I still think it is highly likely that Tevez will move this Summer, but I don’t see Inter being the likely destination unless they offer money and a player. I still think it could be Real Madrid that make a move for the striker, they could afford the price that City would deem acceptable.
It would take something around £40million to persuade Mancini to sell his top goal scorer, and I suppose it isn’t surprising that this lower opening bid has been rejected. This is definitely one of those saga’s which is set to run and run, and most likely get very annoying very fast, but when it does happen it could be one of the biggest moves we’ve seen for a while.
