City join hunt for Stoke defender

It’s been a busy day in the Football Transfer Tavern and punters are enjoying a few festive drinks at the bar when Joe Bernstein from Mail Online arrives with news that Ryan Shawcross is a shock transfer target for Manchester City in the upcoming January transfer window.

The England international has been offered a new six year deal to remain at the Britannia Stadium but it has been suggested that the 25-year-old is stalling on signing the new deal with his desire to play for a top side at the top of his agenda.

This reluctance to agree a new long-term deal could see the Potters selling their star defender during the transfer window with the Premier League champions poised to make a move for the centre back who has 18 months left on his contract.

The former Manchester United youngster has earned acclaim for his fine form as Tony Pulis’ side climb up the Premier League table and City require a new centre back with Joleon Lescott set to leave this January with former club Everton interested.
