Manchester City fans here at the Football Transfer Tavern were more than a little excited yesterday when news of Yaya Toure’s happiness at the club emerged. Now the Daily Star claim even better news could be just around the corner.
The star player has been nothing short of sensational for the Citizens since he arrived from Barcelona in 2010 and has established himself as one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League. With two years left on his current contract, fans were not really panicking about losing the player in the near future. However, City are more vigilant than that and are aware that interest would be rife in the midfielder.
The Ivory Coast international is of course not only domineering and massively commanding in the middle of the park but is also versatile and can even bag a goal or two as Chelsea found out to their cost yesterday afternoon as the Ivorian grabbed a skilfully crafted first in a 2-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium.
Cue an improved and extended contract offer worth around £55 million to the player. The deal would be worth a whopping £11 million per year or indeed £220,000 per week which would put Toure right up there with the highest earners in world football.
The deal would keep Toure at the club for a total of five years and Roberto Mancini recently claimed: “Yaya is a very important player to Manchester City.”
