Today in the Football Transfer Tavern we have been dying to get our hands on a little bit of gossip and that has been provided by the Daily Mail regarding Manchester City.
The publication claim that the club are set to make the first move for Neymar – who has long been mooted for a move to Barcelona. We at the tavern have been wondering exactly how true the links with Manchester City are given that it had seemed for so long that a move to the Nou Camp was settled upon.
Neymar has been suitably coy and the only thing we really know is that in 2014 after the World Cup in his homeland, a transfer away from Santos is inevitable. Now it has been claimed that City have made the first move with directors Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain making the effort to seek out the player’s representatives and family at the recent England international fixture at Wembley Stadium.
Whilst the English press are focusing on the potential acquisition for Neymar by Mancini’s men, the German media are now more sure than ever that Pep could well shake this saga right up and make a bid for the player when he takes over at Bayern Munich in the summer. This is dramatic enough, but given that the Spanish media still see Neymar to Barcelona as the only end scenario, our landlord rightly claims this move is a minefield that we will be talking about for a while to come.
City may have the funds but do they have the ability to land Neymar? Let us know your thoughts below.
